  • PALATA PIMA, STARI GRAD KOTOR

PIMA PALACE, OLD TOWN OF KOTOR

    Year:

    2011

The palace is located within the central area of the Old Town of Kotor, on the east end of the Flour square. The palace was named after its commissioners, the patrician family of Pima. Based on historical sources and stylistic traits, the building is dated to the end of the 17th century, although recent research has revealed that a route of a medieval street ran by the rear (east) façade, and that the remains of the older phases of the building with Romanesque and Gothic windows are located in that tract of the palace. Palace as known today has Renaissance and Baroque characteristics.

The subject of the project was the restoration of the building’s ground-floor level, which was significantly damaged in a recent intervention in the building’s vaults, walls and floors. The space has been adapted for the purposes of an art gallery, Galerija Solidarnosti (Gallery of Solidarity).
